Melinda French Gates has previously opened up about her reaction to reports connecting her former husband, Bill Gates, to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. In interviews following her 2021 divorce, she described feeling deeply disturbed after learning more about the nature of the relationship.
Epstein, who died in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges, had associations with several high-profile individuals over the years. Reports revealed that Bill Gates met with Epstein multiple times after Epstein had already been convicted in 2008. The meetings later became a subject of public scrutiny.
Melinda stated that she met Epstein once in 2013 and immediately felt uneasy. She described him as “evil personified” in a televised interview, saying she regretted the encounter. According to her, the meeting raised serious concerns that contributed to tensions in her marriage.
At the time, Bill Gates acknowledged that meeting with Epstein was a mistake. He publicly stated that the meetings were related to philanthropic discussions but admitted that maintaining contact showed poor judgment.
Melinda emphasized that trust and values are critical in any partnership, and she suggested that the Epstein connection was one of several factors that ultimately led to the end of their marriage. While she did not go into every detail, she made it clear that the situation caused significant strain.
The renewed public interest in Epstein-related documents has once again brought attention to past associations involving powerful figures. However, no evidence has emerged indicating that Bill Gates was involved in Epstein’s criminal activities.
Melinda has since focused on her independent philanthropic work and advocacy for women and girls worldwide. Her comments highlight how the fallout from the Epstein scandal continues to affect reputations and personal lives years later.
