Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has expressed that he is unfazed by the memes circulating online which compare him to various television characters. The 43-year-old, who has led the Blues to seven wins in his first nine matches, says the online commentary does not affect him personally, though it has impacted his family. Rosenior is currently the second English manager to begin his Premier League tenure with four consecutive victories.
Rosenior revealed that he does not use social media himself but learned about the memes through his teenage children. These comparisons have likened him to characters such as Will McKenzie from “The Inbetweeners” and David Brent from “The Office.” Despite the jokes about his mannerisms, Rosenior emphasized that he embraces his individuality and is not concerned about how he is perceived.
“I’m not afraid to be myself,” Rosenior stated. “If I wear glasses, if I sound a little bit over the top when I speak, or articulate myself in a certain way, or I don’t look like a manager, it doesn’t bother me at all.”
Addressing the impact of these memes on his family, Rosenior acknowledged they do affect his household but underscored that he anticipated such reactions when accepting the Chelsea role. He was appointed as Chelsea manager following Enzo Maresca’s departure in January amid disputes with the club’s owners.
“The reason I know is because I’ve got teenage children,” Rosenior added. “They’re on social media. It affects them, it affects my parents and my family. But I knew walking into this job it was going to happen. It’s normal. When you’re prepared for it, it makes you smile. I’m a confident person. If you’re affected by things like that, you shouldn’t be in this job.”
Under Rosenior’s leadership, Chelsea recently secured a 3-2 victory against Napoli, advancing to the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League. In the Premier League, Chelsea currently holds fifth place, trailing fourth-placed Manchester United by one point. Their next match is a home game against Leeds United, who are positioned 16th in the league standings.
