A doctor has shared a surprising reason your sleep position could be affecting your skin’s ageing — and it’s not just about how long you sleep.
According to health expert Dr Raj Arora, sleeping on your side could be contributing to deeper lines and wrinkles because your face may be pressed into your pillow for hours each night.
This repeated pressure and friction can lead to “sleep wrinkles”, which might become more noticeable over time, especially as skin loses elasticity with age.

Experts say these lines form where the skin is continuously compressed, and back sleeping is generally the best position to avoid this kind of pressure.
Dermatologists and skin specialists also recommend using silk or satin pillowcases, which can reduce friction compared with cotton and help protect skin and hair.
Sleep isn’t just about position, though — getting enough quality sleep overall is linked with better skin repair, elasticity and fewer signs of aging.
Other lifestyle factors like sun protection, hydration, and avoiding smoking or vaping also play major roles in maintaining youthful skin.
While one night of rest won’t magically reverse aging, experts agree that both good sleep habits and mindful sleep positions can help support skin health over time.
