Kimmel described the address as an “angry” message, emphasizing what he interpreted as a central theme portraying foreigners negatively. “The theme of tonight’s speech was all foreigners are murderers,” Kimmel remarked shortly after the event.
Kimmel also took aim at First Lady Melania Trump with a sarcastic comment, stating, “He said zero illegal aliens have been allowed into the United States on his watch, but the door is always open to those who come in legally to be his next wife.”
The host further commented on the state of the nation in a metaphorical manner, saying, “The state of their union is twin beds tonight.”
He compared the speech to a “Christmas message from the Grinch,” referring to the president’s remarks about ending diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and removing two million people from food stamp assistance programs.
Kimmel did not limit his critique to the content of the speech; he also commented on President Trump’s appearance during the address. He quipped that Trump’s hairstyle looked like “a cloud on top of a sweet potato” and humorously described the combination of makeup and perspiration as forming a “frothy, homemade Orange Julius” on his face.
The tension between Kimmel and Trump is longstanding, with Trump previously advocating for the cancellation of Kimmel’s show following the host’s comments related to a shooting incident involving political commentator Charlie Kirk in September. As of this report, Donald Trump has not responded publicly to Kimmel’s recent remarks about the State of the Union address.
