Celebrating three decades since its inception, Lafayette 148 has returned to its foundational design elements with the launch of its Fall 2026 Ready-to-Wear collection. Designer Emily Smith revisited the brand’s archives to draw inspiration from the original suiting basics that established the label’s identity, including a reimagined interpretation of the classic white button-up shirt.

Smith’s design process involved a deep dive into garment construction and a reflection on the manufacturing practices that previously defined the brand. Emphasizing the brand’s identity as a women-led operation, the new collection integrates fabric choices and a color palette inspired by New York City.

The collection highlights contemporary silhouettes with four new trouser cuts, featuring slightly cinched waists and sharply tailored shoulders that pay homage to 1990s fashion trends. Notably, the traditional white button-up shirt appears anew as a relaxed, oversized wrap shirt, blending comfort with elegance.

Attention to garment proportions is a key focus, with Smith concentrating on areas she refers to as “the bits,” emphasizing parts of the apparel that accentuate or flatter the wearer’s figure. Mid-rise trousers are designed to offer flattering shapes, while pant legs and midi skirts maintain long, lean lines, complementing the overall streamlined aesthetic.

Ornamental details are minimal, limited to subtle floral appliqués crafted in-house, adding a delicate touch to the otherwise sleek designs. The blend of structure and softness aims to cater to the modern woman seeking both sophistication and ease.

This collection not only marks a reflective moment for Lafayette 148 but also exemplifies its commitment to evolving while honoring the roots that defined its brand identity over the past 30 years.
