Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball made his first public remarks following a car accident in Uptown Charlotte that occurred last Wednesday. The 24-year-old player, along with his distinctive 2022 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1, was involved in a collision that resulted in minor injuries to another individual and damaged his vehicle.
Speaking to the media after the Hornets’ 105-101 loss to the Houston Rockets on Thursday, Ball chose to keep his comments focused primarily on basketball. When asked about the crash, he described it as “unfortunate” but reassured that “everybody cool.” He expressed gratitude, saying, “Just blessings. God is great.”
Regarding reports that Ball left the scene shortly after the accident, the player did not provide detailed information and instead directed inquiries elsewhere, responding, “You gotta check in on that.” Footage showed Ball being assisted from his disabled Hummer approximately ten minutes after the incident and then getting into a Lamborghini before departing the scene. Observers have not indicated that he left before authorities permitted him to do so.
On his physical and mental state during the game just one day after the accident, Ball offered a brief reply: “Just alive and blessed for real. God is great, like I said.”
In the game itself, Ball contributed 11 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists over 31 minutes of play. The Hornets, who lost the game, are expected to attempt recovery in their next match against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The incident has drawn attention both for the damage to Ball’s custom Hummer and his swift transition back to professional play, highlighting the player’s resilience and focus amid unexpected circumstances.
