Tensions between the United States and France are growing after Donald Trump made personal comments about French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife.

At a private event, Trump reportedly mocked Macron and referenced a past video involving his wife, Brigitte Macron, while criticizing France for not fully supporting U.S. military actions in the Middle East.

Macron responded publicly during a trip to South Korea, saying Trump’s comments “weren’t elegant” and were not appropriate for world leaders.

The disagreement is partly about military strategy. The U.S. wants allies to help secure the Strait of Hormuz during the ongoing conflict involving Iran, but France has refused to commit naval forces to the mission.

France has instead deployed jets and defense systems to protect allies in the region, but has not fully backed the American military plan, creating tension between the two countries.

European allies including Spain and Italy have also limited their support and even banned U.S. aircraft involved in the bombing campaign from using their airbases.

The relationship between Trump and Macron was once very friendly, but over the past year they have clashed more often over foreign policy, tariffs, and military strategy.

What started as political disagreements is now becoming more personal, with public comments and criticism from both sides.
