Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman recently revealed the one thing she absolutely cannot tolerate when filming intimate scenes — and it has nothing to do with awkward choreography or camera angles.
During an appearance on the Las Culturistas podcast, Kidman said that bad breath is her ultimate dealbreaker when shooting romantic or kissing scenes with co-stars.
The actress explained that smell is a very important sense for her, and unpleasant breath can instantly ruin the moment — even if the person is otherwise very attractive.
Kidman shared a humorous story from the set of the HBO series Big Little Lies involving her co-star Alexander Skarsgård.
According to Kidman, Skarsgård once ate a falafel sandwich shortly before they had to film a kissing scene together. The strong smell quickly became noticeable when they got close on camera.
Kidman joked that she immediately told him to “put away the falafel,” explaining that bad breath simply didn’t help the mood when actors were supposed to be portraying a romantic moment.
She added that even in professional settings, poor breath would be enough for her to stop the scene, saying she simply “cannot stand” it.
Despite the awkward moment, the two actors went on to deliver acclaimed performances in Big Little Lies, with both eventually winning Emmy Awards for their roles.
Kidman shared the story with humor, giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at the small but very real challenges actors sometimes face while filming intimate scenes.
