Savannah Guthrie, a US news anchor, has made a renewed public appeal for assistance as the looming deadline for a ransom payment for her mother grows closer. In a video posted on Instagram, Guthrie conveyed the family’s desperation, stating, “We are at an hour of desperation, and we need your help.”
Nancy Guthrie, 84, went missing from her Tucson, Arizona home in the early hours of January 31. Authorities suspect she was abducted against her will. Her absence was first noticed when she failed to attend a church service on February 1, prompting concern among fellow attendees.
The FBI has become involved in the case, offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s safe return. Multiple ransom notes demanding payment in Bitcoin have been sent to local media outlets. A previous ransom deadline passed on February 5 without resolution.
In her video message, Savannah Guthrie appeared alone and thanked the public for their prayers, emphasizing that her mother is feeling those prayers “even in this darkest place.” She urged everyone, regardless of proximity to Tucson, to report any suspicious activities or information to law enforcement, stating, “If you see anything, if you hear anything, if there’s anything at all that seems strange to you, please report it.”
Despite extensive investigation, the sheriff’s office has announced that no suspects, persons of interest, or related vehicles have been identified so far. FBI Special Agent Heith Janke indicated that the agency is reviewing ransom notes and specified a payment deadline of 5:00 p.m. on a Thursday, with a secondary deadline set for the following Monday. The precise time zone for the deadlines was not disclosed.
On the same day as Guthrie’s latest appeal, FBI Director Kash Patel visited Tucson, although the trip was scheduled prior to the disappearance.
The family has released several previous videos stating their willingness to communicate with the abductor and requesting proof that Nancy Guthrie is alive. Savannah Guthrie expressed an urgent need for assistance in locating her mother, who remains missing amid ongoing investigations.
