A shocking incident was caught on surveillance video at Seattle’s Northgate light rail station, where a hooded man allegedly tried to push another commuter onto incoming train tracks.
On March 19, the commuter was waiting for his train when a man in a hoodie suddenly approached from behind and attempted to shove him forward just as the train entered the station.
Miraculously, the victim kept his balance and did not fall onto the tracks before the train arrived, avoiding what could have been a deadly outcome.
After this terrifying attempt, the suspected assailant fled the platform before any passengers could intervene.
Authorities later identified the suspect as 26‑year‑old Elisio Melendez, using surveillance footage and tips from police.
Melendez was arrested at a mental health facility near the station and charged with second‑degree attempted murder in connection with the attack.
Court filings reveal Melendez had prior charges, including a dismissed assault case tied to mental competency concerns, and a new competency evaluation was ordered at his recent arraignment.
He’s being held on $750,000 bond while the case moves forward, and prosecutors say the incident highlights the danger of sudden, unprovoked attacks in public spaces.
