A Tesla driver recently shared his electricity bill after driving his electric car for a year, and the total left many people shocked. The driver posted the bill online, and it quickly went viral after people saw the amount he had paid.
According to the post, the driver received his first electricity bill in 12 months, and the total amount for the entire year was only about $2.37. Many people online initially thought the bill was fake because the amount was so low.
The reason the bill was so low was not because charging a Tesla is always that cheap. The driver explained that he had solar panels installed at his home along with a Tesla Powerwall battery system.
The solar panels generated electricity during the day, and the extra energy was stored in the Powerwall battery or sold back to the electricity grid. This created energy credits that helped reduce his electricity bill significantly.
He was also using a home charging plan that allowed him to charge his car at night for a very low cost, which helped reduce the total even more over time.
However, experts point out that installing solar panels and battery systems can cost thousands of dollars upfront, so the extremely low bill does not tell the whole story.
Still, the post started a big discussion online about electric cars, electricity costs, and whether electric vehicles are actually cheaper than gasoline cars in the long run.
Many people said the bill was impressive, while others said the initial cost of solar panels and equipment should also be considered before comparing costs.
