Donald Trump has sparked controversy after claiming that a former U.S. president privately supported his actions regarding Iran.

Speaking to reporters on March 16, Trump said multiple times that he had spoken with a former president who told him they “wished they had done the same thing.” However, he refused to reveal the individual’s identity.

Trump described the person as “smart” and suggested they were a Democrat, adding that he didn’t want to name them because it could “embarrass” them or cause problems.

The claim quickly drew attention — and skepticism — as aides to all four living former presidents responded within hours to deny any such conversation took place.

Representatives for Bill Clinton said no conversation like that had happened, while aides for George W. Bush stated the two have not been in contact.

Similarly, a spokesperson for Barack Obama said there had been no recent discussions, and a source close to Joe Biden also dismissed the claim.

Despite the widespread denials, Trump has not provided additional details or evidence to support his statement.

The situation has left many questioning what actually happened, as conflicting accounts continue to fuel debate over the claim.
