# Son Accused Of Killing Parents Demands Access To $1.5 Million Trust Fund To Hire Private Lawyer

## Murder Suspect Files New Court Petition

Nick Reiner, the man accused of murdering his parents in December 2025, is now demanding access to more than $1.5 million from a trust fund created in his name.

According to newly filed court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Reiner argues the money should be released immediately so he can pay for a high-powered legal defense and cover basic expenses while incarcerated.

The filing comes as Reiner continues fighting two first-degree murder charges connected to the deaths of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.

Reiner has pleaded not guilty.

## Petition Claims Trust Money Was Supposed To Be Released Years Ago

According to the probate petition filed in California court on June 8, Nick’s parents established separate trust funds for each of their children.

The filing claims Nick was supposed to receive half of the trust outright when he turned 30, with the remaining balance scheduled for release at age 35.

Nick, now 32, alleges he still has not received the first mandatory distribution.

The petition also claims he has not been informed of the exact value of the trust, though it allegedly exceeds $1.5 million.

“Nick loved his parents, and he is devastated by their deaths,” the filing states.

“But the facts about what did and did not happen to them are not at issue in this Trust litigation.”

## Family Trustee Accused Of Blocking Payments

According to the petition, the trustee overseeing the account has repeatedly refused to release the money despite months of requests.

The filing alleges the trustee cited concerns about Nick’s ability to manage the funds while facing criminal charges.

However, Reiner’s legal team argues those concerns are legally insufficient.

“There is no judicial declaration that Nick is incompetent,” the petition states.

The filing further argues that because the trust is irrevocable, the trustee cannot simply withhold distributions based on subjective concerns about how Nick may spend the money.

Instead, the petition claims the trustee could only alter the method of payment if competency issues were officially established.

## Money Requested For Legal Defense And Jail Expenses

Reiner’s attorneys say access to the trust is critical because he currently cannot afford basic necessities while behind bars or hire the legal representation he wants.

The petition claims the funds would help cover commissary purchases, including hygiene products and clothing items allowed in jail.

It also says the money is urgently needed to retain experienced private counsel instead of relying solely on a public defender.

“The stakes for Nick could not be higher,” the filing states.

According to the petition, former defense attorney Alan Jackson initially agreed to represent Nick but later withdrew after funding issues prevented the arrangement from continuing.

Nick is currently represented by public defender Kimberly Greene.

## Attorney Says He Is Still Willing To Represent Nick

In a declaration attached to the filing, Jackson reportedly said he remains interested in defending Nick if a financial arrangement can be reached.

He stated he is “committed to representing” Reiner and would consider “reasonable alternatives” regarding payment.

The filing has added another dramatic chapter to a case that has already drawn widespread public attention due to the shocking allegations involving the deaths of Nick’s parents.

## The Case Continues To Draw Attention

While the trust dispute unfolds separately in probate court, the criminal case against Nick Reiner remains ongoing.

Prosecutors accuse him of murdering both of his parents in December 2025, though details surrounding the allegations continue to emerge through court proceedings.

For now, the central battle in the latest filing is not about guilt or innocence — but whether a man accused of killing his parents should still receive money from a trust they created for him before their deaths.
