Bam Margera is officially returning to the Jackass franchise, despite previously insisting he would never work with the team again following his highly publicized fallout with Johnny Knoxville and director Jeff Tremaine.
While Jackass: Best and Last won’t feature any new stunts from Margera, the longtime fan favorite will appear through previously unseen archival footage, marking his first appearance in the franchise since Jackass 3D.
Fired from Jackass Forever
Margera was removed from Jackass Forever during production after reportedly violating a wellness agreement that had been put in place because of his well-documented struggles with substance abuse.
Following his dismissal, Margera sued Johnny Knoxville, Jeff Tremaine and others involved with the production, claiming his civil rights had been violated.
In a 2025 interview with CinemaBlend, he said:
“What they did to me, making me go to treatment and paying for it, and then not putting me in a movie… You couldn’t offer me enough money to want to do another Jackass with them. The damage has been done.”
The feud turned public
The dispute escalated well beyond the courtroom.
At one point, Margera challenged Knoxville to a bare-knuckle fight, posting videos online in which he repeatedly insulted his former co-star and claimed the wellness agreement he signed was comparable to a “death waiver.”
Meanwhile, Knoxville largely avoided escalating the conflict publicly.
Speaking in 2024, he revealed the pair hadn’t spoken since Margera’s firing but added:
“I love Bam. I wish him well… I hope he’s doing well.”
Earlier this year, Knoxville again expressed support for his former friend, saying he was happy to hear Margera had been doing better.
Why Margera agreed to return
Although Margera declined to film any new material for Jackass: Best and Last, he agreed to let producers use archived footage that never made previous films.
Speaking to TMZ, he explained that he still carries emotional scars from everything that happened.
“I have a lot of PTSD from it all,” he said, adding that being referred to as the “ex-Jackass star” remains painful.
Despite those feelings, he said he remembers filming countless stunts that were never released.
“They said we’re going to sift through a lot of old footage to try to create something new and I said, ‘Hell yeah, go for it,'” Margera said.
While his relationship with the Jackass team may remain complicated, fans will get one final chance to see him as part of the franchise when Jackass: Best and Last arrives.
