More than 10 companies have reportedly signed up for Truth API, a new service from Trump Media that gives paying customers faster access to posts from influential accounts on Truth Social.
The unusual service is attracting particular attention from high-frequency trading firms, which executives say are paying between $60,000 and $100,000 a month for the faster data access.
Why Speed Matters on Wall Street
The appeal is simple: posts from President Donald Trump can sometimes move financial markets within minutes. Giving traders access to those posts faster could potentially allow them to react before other market participants see and process the information.
Trump Media CEO Kevin McGurn said during the company’s earnings call that the service had already attracted more than 10 customers shortly after its launch. The company sees Truth API as a potentially “meaningful” and “durable” source of revenue.
The Controversy Goes Beyond Trading
The business has also raised ethical and legal questions because Trump Media is closely associated with the president and his family. Critics have questioned whether a company with those connections should be able to charge financial firms for faster access to statements that can potentially affect markets.
The issue becomes particularly sensitive when those statements concern companies, economic policy or other subjects capable of influencing investor behavior.
Trump Media Is Still Losing Money
The announcement comes as Trump Media reported a $238 million net loss for the second quarter, despite generating about $1.7 million in revenue. The company said revenue increased from the same period a year earlier, but its overall financial results were heavily affected by losses connected to its digital-asset strategy.
Trump Media has increasingly moved beyond its original social-media business, building up cryptocurrency holdings and exploring other ventures. That diversification has helped turn the company into something much broader than a conventional media company.
A Very Different Kind of Media Business
The company says it intends to refocus on its social-media mission while continuing to explore opportunities involving technology companies, news organizations and betting markets. The Truth API is one example of how Trump Media is attempting to turn its access to the Truth Social ecosystem into a new commercial product.
For traders, the service is ultimately about milliseconds and information flow. For Trump Media, it represents something potentially more valuable: a way to monetize the political influence and market-moving reach of Truth Social without relying entirely on advertising.
That makes the service an unusual intersection of social media, politics and financial markets. Whether it becomes a substantial long-term business remains to be seen, but the willingness of trading firms to pay tens of thousands of dollars every month shows that some investors already believe faster access to Truth Social data has significant value.
