Josh Allen is opening up about the sweet story behind the name he and Hailee Steinfeld chose for their first child together.
The Buffalo Bills quarterback recently shared that the couple had their daughter’s name in mind early on, revealing that the idea actually came from his wife. The pair welcomed their baby girl, Harper Haize Allen, in April 2026.
‘It Was My Wife’s Idea’
When asked about the inspiration behind the name during an interview with E! News, Allen said the decision was largely Steinfeld’s.
“It was an early thought that we had,” Allen explained. “It was my wife’s idea.”
He added that if there is any deeper family meaning behind the name, Steinfeld would be the better person to explain it.
Fatherhood Has Changed His Perspective
Allen has also spoken about how becoming a father has reshaped his outlook both on and off the football field.
While promoting his partnership with supplement brand Natrol, the NFL star admitted that getting enough sleep has become much more challenging since Harper’s arrival. Even so, he said he wouldn’t trade the experience for anything.
“I love being a dad,” Allen shared, explaining that interrupted nights have become part of his new routine.
A New Motivation for the NFL Star
As Allen prepares for another NFL season, he says his biggest motivation is no longer personal achievement.
Instead, he hopes his daughter will one day see the work, discipline and commitment that go into pursuing success. Allen said his goal is to set an example for Harper by showing her the value of dedication and perseverance.
Hailee Is Enjoying Every Moment
Steinfeld first announced Harper’s birth in April through her Beau Society newsletter before later revealing her daughter’s full name in a heartfelt letter.
The actress has since shared that her main goal this summer is to be fully present with her baby, saying she now understands why parents often say children grow up “in the blink of an eye.” She hopes to cherish every milestone while Harper is still in her first year of life.
