Family Shares New Details Following Actor’s Passing
The cause of Sam Neill’s death has been confirmed following the beloved actor’s passing on July 13 at the age of 78.
According to a statement from his representative, the Jurassic Park star died from pneumonia after recently overcoming a battle with a rare form of blood cancer. His family has also announced plans to hold a private memorial at Neill’s farm in New Zealand.
He Had Recently Defeated Cancer
Before becoming ill, Neill had successfully entered remission after being diagnosed with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, a rare type of blood cancer, in 2022.
His representative said the actor underwent CAR-T cell therapy, an advanced treatment that helped bring the disease under control. Despite his recovery from cancer, Neill later developed pneumonia, which ultimately led to his death.
A Busy Final Chapter
Even while managing his health, Neill remained remarkably active. Over the past year, he reportedly completed four film and television projects while continuing to oversee his Two Paddocks winery in New Zealand.
Friends and colleagues often praised his passion for acting and his dedication to his work, qualities that remained evident throughout his final years.
Private Memorial Planned
Neill’s family said they intend to celebrate his life with a private memorial service at his New Zealand farm at a later date.
His representative also asked fans to respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time and encouraged those wishing to honor the actor’s memory to support charitable organizations that were important to him instead of sending flowers.
Remembering an Iconic Career
Over a career spanning more than five decades, Neill became one of cinema’s most recognizable actors through memorable performances in Jurassic Park, The Hunt for Red October, The Piano, The Tudors, and Peaky Blinders.
Following news of his death, tributes poured in from fellow actors and filmmakers around the world, many remembering him not only for his talent but also for his kindness, humor, and generosity.
