Darline Graham Opens Up About Her Late Brother
Sen. Darline Graham has shared an emotional tribute to her late brother, Lindsey Graham, saying his dedication to public service often came at the expense of his own health.
Speaking during an interview with Sean Hannity, Darline said she wished her brother had taken better care of himself. She described him as someone who believed he was on a “mission from God” and devoted his life to serving the country.
Remembering Lindsey Graham
According to preliminary findings from the D.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Lindsey Graham died from an aortic dissection related to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease. He was 71 years old.
Darline said that, if she could go back, she would encourage him to prioritize his health. Despite that regret, she said she believes he spent his life pursuing what he believed was his purpose.
Stepping Into His Role
Following her brother’s passing, Darline was appointed to serve as South Carolina’s U.S. senator for the remainder of his term, becoming the first woman to represent the state in the Senate.
President Donald Trump later publicly encouraged her to seek the seat in a special election, praising her experience and offering his endorsement.
Decision to Run for a Full Term
During the interview, Darline confirmed that she has decided to run for a full Senate term.
She said the decision came after discussions with her family and a great deal of reflection. Darline added that she feels prepared for the challenge and hopes to continue serving South Carolina while honoring the work ethic she learned from her brother.
Campaign Moves Forward
Candidates seeking the Republican nomination must file within the state’s designated filing period before the primary election. The winner of the GOP primary will advance to the general election later this year.
As her campaign begins, Darline Graham says she is focused on carrying forward a legacy of public service while forging her own path in the U.S. Senate.
