The rising actor says Hollywood wasn’t always the plan
Homer Gere may come from one of Hollywood’s best-known families, but acting wasn’t always his dream.
The 25-year-old revealed that before stepping into the entertainment industry, he seriously considered pursuing a career in science, believing he might one day become a researcher instead of an actor.
A passion for science
Speaking about his younger years, Gere said he was fascinated by biology and physics and entered college expecting to follow a scientific path.
He admitted his plans changed after realizing he felt more at home with fellow students in the arts, ultimately leading him toward acting.
Baseball was another childhood dream
Before discovering his passion for performing, Gere also hoped to become a professional baseball player.
Those ambitions came to an end after a shoulder injury, prompting him to rethink his future and explore other interests.
Richard Gere’s advice goes beyond acting
As the son of Richard Gere and actress Carey Lowell, Homer says he has benefited from years of guidance from his father.
Rather than offering tips on individual scenes, Richard has focused on helping his son build a long-lasting career by teaching him how to conduct himself professionally on set and navigate the entertainment industry.
A childhood connection to one of his father’s films
Homer also shared a personal memory involving the Oscar-winning musical Chicago, in which his father appeared.
He recalled listening to songs performed by Richard Gere during school bus rides as a child, saying the music helped ease his separation anxiety.
A major new role
Homer now stars in FX’s psychological thriller The Shards, based on Bret Easton Ellis’ bestselling novel.
Set in 1980s Los Angeles, the series explores friendship, obsession, privilege, and hidden dangers as a group of elite high school students find themselves drawn into a dark mystery.
