President Donald Trump says the United States has called off planned military strikes against Iran, for now, provided a new agreement with Tehran can be reached quickly.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that Iran and several Middle Eastern countries had asked the U.S. to delay military action because the framework of a potential deal had been agreed upon. He said Washington remains prepared to act if negotiations fail.
Trump: ‘Locked and Loaded’
Trump wrote that the U.S. military was fully prepared to launch a major operation against Iran but decided to pause any attack in the hope of reaching a diplomatic solution.
He described American forces as “locked and loaded” while adding that postponing military action could ultimately benefit both regional stability and Iran’s future if an agreement is reached rapidly.
His comments followed reports that the United States and Israel had been discussing possible strikes targeting Iranian energy infrastructure.
Iran Rejects Trump’s Claims
Iran quickly disputed Trump’s account.
The country’s semi-official Mehr News Agency denied that Tehran had asked Washington to delay military action, calling the president’s statements false.
Meanwhile, Iran’s acting defense minister warned that the country views every military threat seriously and said Tehran would remain fully prepared to respond to any attack.
Diplomatic Pressure Continues
Saudi Arabia has also reportedly urged efforts to reduce tensions. According to Saudi state media, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman spoke with Trump and emphasized the importance of dialogue and diplomatic solutions to avoid further conflict.
Regional governments remain concerned that any renewed fighting could threaten key infrastructure and disrupt shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil transit routes.
Conflict Remains Unresolved
Relations between Washington and Tehran have remained tense following months of military exchanges after an earlier ceasefire collapsed.
The conflict has included U.S. strikes on Iranian targets, Iranian missile and drone attacks against American assets in the region, and disruptions to commercial shipping, contributing to volatility in global oil markets.
While Trump says diplomacy is now being given another opportunity, no formal agreement has been announced, and significant differences between the two sides remain unresolved.
