Authorities investigating the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie say they hope newly released ransom notes will generate fresh leads as the search for the 84-year-old enters its sixth month.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD) made the unusual decision to publish two ransom letters connected to the case, believing that the wording, writing style, or specific details could trigger someone’s memory and lead investigators to the person responsible.

Sheriff: ‘Someone Knows Something’

Sheriff Chris Nanos said investigators released the letters because they believe members of the public may recognize clues hidden within the messages.

According to Nanos, detectives hope someone will identify the language, phrasing, or writing style and come forward with information that could move the investigation forward.

He emphasized that authorities believe someone has information that could help solve the case.

What the Letters Said

The first ransom note, sent shortly after Nancy disappeared from her Tucson home on February 1, claimed she was alive and being held for ransom.

Several days later, a second letter alleged that Nancy had died shortly after being abducted due to a medical emergency and claimed she had been buried in a remote natural area.

Investigators have not confirmed the accuracy of the claims made in either letter, and Nancy has not been found.

Thousands of Leads Still Being Investigated

According to the sheriff, detectives continue to analyze thousands of surveillance videos, photographs, forensic samples, and tens of thousands of tips received from the public.

He acknowledged that investigators have executed search warrants and interviewed several individuals but stressed that doing so does not automatically clear or implicate anyone.

Nanos also addressed speculation surrounding the victim’s relatives, stating that Nancy’s family has never been considered suspects and should instead be viewed as victims.

Savannah Guthrie’s Emotional Plea

Nancy’s daughter, television journalist Savannah Guthrie, has made an emotional public appeal asking anyone with information to come forward.

She urged anyone who may recognize the writing in the ransom notes or notice unusual behavior from someone they know to contact investigators, emphasizing that anonymous tips are accepted.

Rewards Total $1.1 Million

The FBI is offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to Nancy’s recovery or the arrest of those responsible.

Nancy’s family has also announced an additional $1 million reward, bringing the total available reward to $1.1 million.

Authorities continue to ask anyone with information to contact the FBI or the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
