Tom Noonan, the actor widely recognized for his performances in films such as ‘Robocop 2’ and ‘Last Action Hero,’ has died at the age of 74. Noonan passed away last Saturday, with the news confirmed by director Fred Dekker, who shared a tribute on social media.
Fred Dekker highlighted Noonan’s memorable role as Frankenstein in the 1987 film ‘The Monster Squad,’ praising his contribution to the film and his collaborative work with makeup artists Stan Winston, Tom Woodruff Jr., and Zoltan Elek. Dekker described Noonan as “the proverbial gentleman and scholar,” expressing condolences on the loss of a talented actor.
Noonan began his film career in 1980 with a small part in the romantic comedy ‘Willie & Phil.’ Due to his striking presence and height of 6 feet 5 inches, he frequently took on villainous roles throughout his career. Among his notable characters were Cain in ‘Robocop 2,’ Ripper in ‘Last Action Hero,’ Francis Dollarhyde in ‘Manhunter,’ and Gary Jackson in ‘The Pledge.’
In addition to these, Noonan portrayed Kelso in ‘Heat,’ Mr. Ulman in ‘The House of the Devil,’ Ray Gullikson in ‘The Alphabet Killer,’ and Sammy Barnathan in ‘Synecdoche, New York.’ His television appearances included roles in respected series such as ‘The X-Files,’ ‘Law & Order: Criminal Intent,’ ‘Tales From The Darkside,’ and ‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.’
