A GoFundMe fundraiser established in memory of actor Eric Dane has resumed accepting donations after a temporary pause for review by the platform. The fundraiser, which had raised nearly $250,000 before being put under review, is intended to support Dane’s daughters following his passing last week.
Eric Dane, known for his role as Dr. Mark Sloan on “Grey’s Anatomy,” died on February 19, 2026, after battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive neurodegenerative disease diagnosed in 2024. Friends noted his dedication to raising awareness about ALS despite his declining health.
The fundraiser was created by individuals identified only as “Friends of the Dane Family” to provide financial support to Dane’s daughters during this difficult period. Celebrities such as Hailey Bieber and “Euphoria” creator Sam Levinson have made significant contributions, with Levinson and his wife donating $27,000.
Mike McGuiness, a longtime friend of Dane’s, shared on social media that the fundraiser was launched due to Dane’s financial challenges caused by the impact of both COVID-19 and his ALS diagnosis on his ability to work. McGuiness indicated his intention to promote the fundraiser to encourage support.
On February 22, GoFundMe announced the fundraiser was placed under review to verify additional information, including ensuring the correct beneficiary was assigned. During this review, donations were held securely by the payment processors and the fundraiser was inaccessible to new donors.
A statement from GoFundMe explained that this is part of their standard procedure to ensure fundraisers comply with their Terms of Service. After completion of the review, the fundraiser was verified, reactivated, and Rebecca Gayheart, Dane’s widow, was confirmed as the beneficiary.
As of now, the fundraiser has collected $337,847, providing financial assistance for Dane’s family. Dane is remembered by colleagues and friends for his commitment to the ALS community and his role as a devoted father to his two daughters, Billie and Georgia.
Representatives for Dane’s wife were contacted for comment. The fundraiser continues to accept contributions as the family copes with their loss.
