Kouri Richins, a 35-year-old children’s book author, is currently on trial for the alleged murder of her husband, Eric Richins, who died in 2022 from a lethal dose of fentanyl. The charges against Kouri include aggravated murder, attempted criminal homicide, and financial crimes. Prosecutors say she administered the powerful synthetic opioid by adding it to a Moscow mule cocktail that Eric drank.

Eric and Kouri Richins had three children together. Following Eric’s death, Kouri authored a children’s book titled “Are You With Me?” which deals with the theme of grief, depicting a father with angel wings watching over his son.

Prosecutors claim that at the time of Eric’s death, Kouri was involved in an extramarital affair and allege she orchestrated the murder for financial benefit. Additionally, she faces separate financial charges related to allegedly obtaining lines of credit on jointly owned property without Eric’s knowledge.

Kouri Richins has pleaded not guilty to all charges. Her defense team has argued that a key prosecution witness has altered their testimony and maintains that much of the evidence presented is circumstantial.

A jury was selected recently, and opening statements in the case are scheduled to begin on February 23, 2026. The trial is taking place in Park City, Utah, where the preliminary hearing was held on August 26, 2024.
