Magic City, a well-known Atlanta nightclub, has responded to public backlash regarding its upcoming tribute event for the Atlanta Hawks, assuring attendees and critics alike that there will be no nudity during the event. The tribute night is scheduled for March 16 and aims to highlight the club’s broader cultural influence beyond its adult entertainment reputation.
On a recent broadcast, Magic City’s manager JuJu Barney emphasized, “There will be no nudity whatsoever, at all. It’s strictly just wings and music and people having a good time.” Barney acknowledged the club’s identity as a strip club but pointed out its wider cultural significance. “It’s more of an iconic place where anybody who’s a CEO, NBA player, politician, actresses, actors, they all come and they’re all normal when they come here. Everybody’s the same when they come to Magic City. And it’s more than strip, [it’s] more about the culture, the hip hop, the music, the food, the fun vibes.”
Despite Magic City’s assurances, the event has drawn criticism, including from NBA player Luke Kornet of the San Antonio Spurs, who described the event as disrespectful toward women. Dancer Yaya, who also spoke about the event, defended the venue and the collaboration. She credited Magic City with supporting her career and providing opportunities, including international travel throughout her twenties. “I don’t feel used, I don’t feel degraded,” Yaya stated.
She described the collaboration and event as “more celebratory energy than anything that he’s trying to make it seem like,” adding that she does not believe the event will negatively impact women. Yaya also expressed hope that the exposure from this event could promote alternative career paths beyond the club.
The Atlanta Hawks organization has not altered its plans in response to the controversy. When asked, team representatives confirmed that there have been no discussions about canceling the tribute night. The Hawks remain committed to hosting the event as scheduled.
