Actor Eric Dane, widely known for his roles in Grey’s Anatomy and Euphoria, has died at the age of 53. The news shocked many fans who followed his career for decades.
Dane first rose to fame playing Dr. Mark Sloan, also known as “McSteamy,” on the hit medical drama Grey’s Anatomy. His charisma and screen presence quickly made him one of the show’s most memorable characters.
In recent years, he also gained attention for his role as Cal Jacobs in HBO’s Euphoria. The actor remained active in television and film, continuing to work on major projects even as his health declined.
In April 2025, Dane publicly revealed that he had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive neurological disease that affects nerve cells controlling muscle movement.
According to official reports, Dane died on February 19, 2026 in Los Angeles. The death certificate confirmed that the immediate cause of death was respiratory failure, with ALS listed as the underlying condition.
During his illness, Dane became an advocate for ALS awareness and research. Friends and colleagues praised his courage and determination while facing the disease.
He is survived by his wife, actress Rebecca Gayheart, and their two daughters.
