Actress Gina Gershon recently opened up about filming one of the most talked-about scenes from the cult classic film Showgirls, revealing that the experience left her feeling “traumatized.”
Released in 1995 and directed by Paul Verhoeven, Showgirls quickly became one of Hollywood’s most controversial films due to its explicit scenes and provocative storyline. Although the movie was heavily criticized at the time, it has since gained a strong cult following.
Gershon played the role of Cristal Connors, a glamorous and ruthless Las Vegas showgirl who becomes a rival to the film’s main character.
In a recent interview, Gershon reflected on filming an intense pool scene that has since become one of the movie’s most infamous moments. She admitted that the filming process was far more uncomfortable than viewers might realize.
According to the actress, the scene required hours of filming under difficult conditions, which made the experience physically and emotionally draining.
Despite the challenges, Gershon said she remains proud of the film and the role she played, noting that Showgirls eventually found a new audience years after its release.
Over time, the movie has been re-evaluated by fans and critics, transforming from a box-office disappointment into a cult favorite frequently discussed in pop culture.
Looking back, Gershon says the film remains one of the most memorable—and controversial—projects of her career.
