Tensions between the United States and Iran continue as leaders from both countries publicly disagree about possible negotiations and how the conflict could end.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump recently said that Iran wants to make a deal, suggesting that talks could happen if certain conditions are met. However, Iranian officials quickly responded with their own demands.
Senior Iranian official Mohsen Rezaee said in a televised statement that any agreement would only happen on Iran’s terms. He said the war would end only if the United States agreed to two main conditions.
According to Rezaee, Iran wants full financial compensation for damages caused during the conflict and a complete withdrawal of U.S. military forces from the Persian Gulf region. He said the American military presence has been a major cause of instability in the region for decades.
Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian also spoke about the situation, saying Iran wants recognition of what he called the country’s legitimate rights, payment for damages, and guarantees that future attacks would not happen again.
These demands are very different from the goals previously mentioned by U.S. leadership, and at the moment neither side appears ready to back down from their positions.
Political analysts say the situation remains very uncertain, and it is still unclear whether negotiations will happen or if tensions will continue to rise in the region.
This is a developing situation, and more information is expected as both sides continue to make public statements about possible negotiations and conditions for peace.
