A tragic case from Kentucky has resurfaced after the man responsible for the death of a 6-year-old boy was released from prison — only to be rearrested days later.

In 2015, Ronald Exantus broke into a family home in Versailles and fatally stabbed Logan Tipton while the child was asleep. He also attacked the boy’s father and two sisters before being restrained at the scene.

In 2018, a jury found Exantus not guilty of murder by reason of insanity, but convicted him of second-degree assault for the attacks on other family members. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Despite repeated decisions by the Kentucky Parole Board to keep him incarcerated, a state law on Mandatory Reentry Supervision required his release after roughly a decade. He was freed on October 1, 2025.

The case sparked renewed outrage, with Logan’s father speaking publicly about the pain the family continues to endure and the fear surrounding the release.

Just days later, on October 9, 2025, Exantus was rearrested in Florida for failing to comply with legal requirements after his release.

In January 2026, the Kentucky Parole Board officially revoked his supervised release, sending him back to prison.

The case has reignited debate over laws governing early release, mental health rulings in criminal cases, and how the justice system handles high-risk offenders.
