The video originally used Swift’s song “August” and even tagged the singer with a sarcastic message suggesting she would be happy about the song being used. The audio has since been removed.
Another Trump-related post referenced Swift’s 2012 album “Red,” joking that she had written an album about the color associated with the Republican Party. That post and other videos using Swift’s music have also been reported as silent or stripped of their original audio.
A Bigger Pattern
The Swift situation is part of a broader dispute between the Trump administration and musicians whose songs have appeared in political or government social media content. Ariana Grande, Katy Perry, Sabrina Carpenter and Olivia Rodrigo are among the artists who have objected to the use of their music in Trump administration-related posts.
Swift herself has not publicly commented on the latest removals. Her political history with Trump, however, is well known. She endorsed Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential election, after which Trump publicly attacked the singer on social media.
What makes the latest episode particularly interesting is the contrast between the intended message and the result. The posts appeared designed to mock or provoke Swift, but the removal of the music has left some of the videos without the soundtrack that helped create the joke in the first place.
There is also a larger issue surrounding music and political messaging.
