Russell Brand Addresses Past Relationship
Russell Brand has said he had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old when he was 30, describing his past behavior as “exploitative.”
The comments came during a recent interview, where he reflected on his actions and personal conduct from earlier in his career.
“I Was an Immature 30-Year-Old”
Speaking about the situation, Brand said: “I did sleep with a 16-year-old when I was 30… I was an immature 30-year-old.”

He pointed out that the age of consent in the United Kingdom is 16, but acknowledged broader concerns around power dynamics and influence.
Ongoing Legal Case
Brand is currently facing multiple charges in the U.K., including rape and sexual assault, linked to allegations from several women.
The charges stem from incidents alleged to have taken place between 1999 and 2005. He has pleaded not guilty to all counts.
Additional Charges Filed
Further charges were brought in late 2025, expanding the case to include additional allegations from more individuals.
Authorities continue to investigate the claims, while Brand maintains his innocence in all criminal matters.
Reflecting on Power and Fame
During the interview, Brand described his past behavior as selfish and said fame created an environment where he did not consider the impact of his actions on others.
He said: “Consensual sex… when there is a strong power differential… is exploitative.”
Focus on Consent
Brand emphasized that consent remains central to the case and his defense.
He stated that while his past behavior may be viewed as inappropriate, he disputes claims that any actions involved non-consensual activity.
Trial Delayed
The case is expected to proceed to trial later this year after being delayed.
A London court confirmed that proceedings, originally scheduled earlier, will now take place in October.
