Blake Lively has described her legal resolution with filmmaker Justin Baldoni and Wayfarer Studios as a “resounding victory” after the long-running dispute surrounding the film It Ends With Us moved toward closure.
The announcement comes after both sides confirmed they reached a settlement just weeks before the case was expected to go to trial in New York.
Settlement Confirmed After Months of Legal Disputes
Legal representatives for both parties confirmed earlier this month that an agreement had been reached to end the high-profile dispute.
Court filings submitted in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York confirmed the settlement and related stipulations.
While the agreement marks a major turning point, certain legal matters related to fees and damages may still proceed separately.
Lively’s Team Calls It a “Resounding Victory”
Lively’s attorneys described the outcome as a significant legal win, stating that the resolution supports their position following months of litigation.
According to her legal team, parts of Baldoni’s countersuit had already been dismissed before the settlement, including defamation-related claims.
They also pointed to statutory protections under California law that could allow Lively to continue seeking legal fees and damages.
Baldoni’s Legal Team Pushes Back
However, Baldoni’s legal counsel strongly disagreed with that interpretation.
His attorney Bryan Freedman called the settlement a “total victory” for Baldoni and Wayfarer Studios, arguing that most of Lively’s claims had already been dismissed by the court prior to the agreement.
Freedman also suggested the case was effectively weakening before both sides chose to settle.
Background of the High-Profile Dispute
The legal dispute stems from allegations made by Lively in late 2024 related to conduct during production of It Ends With Us, a film directed by and co-starring Baldoni.
Lively alleged harassment and claimed she faced retaliation after raising concerns about on-set behavior, while Baldoni denied the allegations and launched a countersuit that was later dismissed.
The case quickly escalated into one of Hollywood’s most closely watched legal battles.
Court Dismissals and Legal Developments
Earlier rulings by U.S. District Judge Lewis Liman dismissed several claims in the broader case, including sexual harassment and defamation allegations tied to Baldoni’s countersuit.
Some retaliation-related claims were previously allowed to proceed before the settlement was reached.
Legal analysts noted that the dismissal of the countersuit and related findings may have influenced the decision to settle.
Both Sides Say They Want to Move On
Despite the opposing interpretations of the outcome, both parties previously issued statements suggesting a desire to move forward.
A joint statement indicated that the resolution was intended to allow those involved to “move forward constructively and in peace.”
A source close to Lively added that her legal action was not focused on financial gain, but rather on addressing alleged misconduct and protecting others in the industry.
What Happens Next
While the settlement marks a major step toward ending the dispute, some legal questions may still remain regarding fees and procedural issues tied to earlier filings.
For now, both sides are publicly framing the outcome as a form of victory, even as they continue to disagree on what the resolution ultimately represents.
