‘80s music icon Bonnie Tyler has been placed in an induced coma following emergency intestinal surgery, according to her management team.
The 74-year-old singer, best known for global hits such as Total Eclipse of the Heart and Holding Out for a Hero, had been scheduled to perform multiple live shows this year before the sudden medical emergency.
Surgery Took Place in Portugal
Tyler was admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she owns a home, after requiring urgent intestinal surgery.
Her representatives previously confirmed the operation was successful and said she had been recovering following the procedure.
However, updated statements now confirm that doctors placed her in an induced coma to support her recovery process.
Manager Confirms Condition and Requests Privacy
Her manager, Matt Davis, confirmed the situation in a statement on 7 May, saying:
“Bonnie has been put into an induced coma by her doctors to aid her recovery.”
He added that the family and team are asking for privacy during this period and will provide further updates when possible.
Tour Dates Affected
Tyler had been due to return to the stage later this month, including a performance in Malta on 22 May at the SummerLUST Music Festival and another show in Wiesmoor, Germany on 30 May.
Those appearances are now expected to be postponed or cancelled as she continues her recovery.
Career Spanning Decades
Bonnie Tyler rose to international fame in the late 1970s and 1980s, becoming one of the most recognisable voices of her era.
Her 1983 hit Total Eclipse of the Heart remains one of the best-selling singles of all time and continues to receive global airplay decades after its release.
She has maintained an active touring schedule in recent years, performing across Europe and beyond.
No Further Medical Updates Yet
At the time of writing, no additional medical details have been released beyond confirmation of her induced coma and recent surgery.
Her team has indicated that further updates will be shared when there is more information available.
Fans across the world have begun sharing messages of support online as they await news of her recovery.
