Meghan Markle has spoken candidly about one of the most painful chapters of her life during a recent episode of her podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder.
The Duchess of Sussex reflected on the miscarriage she suffered in 2020 while discussing grief, motherhood, and emotional recovery with Girls Who Code founder Reshma Saujani.
Meghan Markle Speaks About Loss and Letting Go
During the emotional conversation, Meghan described the difficulty of processing the loss while trying to continue daily life publicly and privately.
“I’ve spoken about the miscarriage that we experienced,” Meghan said during the podcast. “You have to learn to detach from the thing that you have so much promise and hope for.”
She added that coming to terms with losing “something that you planned to love for a long time” was one of the hardest emotional experiences she had faced.
The Duchess first publicly revealed the miscarriage in a deeply personal 2020 essay published by The New York Times.
In the article, Meghan recalled feeling a sharp cramp while caring for her son Archie before later being hospitalized.
Prince Harry Previously Shared His Own Experience
Prince Harry also discussed the loss in his memoir Spare, where he described the couple leaving the hospital devastated after learning they had lost their unborn child.
He wrote emotionally about burying the pregnancy loss beneath a banyan tree at a private location known only to the two of them.
The couple’s openness about miscarriage has resonated with many people online, with supporters praising Meghan for continuing to speak publicly about grief and women’s health struggles that are often kept private.
Duchess Also Discussed Serious Postpartum Condition
The podcast appearance follows another recent episode in which Meghan revealed she experienced postpartum preeclampsia after giving birth.
The condition, which involves dangerously high blood pressure following childbirth, can become life-threatening without prompt medical treatment.
Speaking with Bumble founder Whitney Wolfe Herd, Meghan explained that many women quietly deal with major medical issues while still trying to care for their children and maintain daily responsibilities.
“The world doesn’t know what’s happening quietly,” Meghan said.
Public Reaction Floods Social Media
After clips from the podcast circulated online, many listeners shared emotional responses and messages of support across social media platforms.
Several commenters praised Meghan’s willingness to discuss painful personal experiences publicly, while others said the conversation helped normalize discussions around miscarriage and maternal health.
The Duchess has increasingly used her recent podcast appearances to discuss motherhood, mental health, grief, and the pressures women face behind closed doors.
