Douglas McCain, the eldest son of the late Senator John McCain, has died at the age of 66. His family confirmed that he passed away suddenly on May 20.

His sister, Meghan McCain, shared the news in an emotional social media tribute, describing her brother as a joyful and supportive presence throughout her life.

“He was a truly wonderful, joyful man who supported me throughout my life,” Meghan wrote. “He brought humor, fun and great conversation to every room. I will cherish our memories together.”

Military Service and Aviation Career

Born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, Douglas McCain attended the University of Virginia, where he studied Systems Engineering before joining the U.S. Navy.

He served as a naval aviator for six years, flying A-6 Intruder aircraft. After his military service, he built a lengthy career with American Airlines, eventually becoming a captain and earning the respect of colleagues throughout the aviation industry.

Although he largely stayed out of the public spotlight, Douglas occasionally reflected on his family life and his relationship with the extended McCain family.
