Deadly Crash Near San Andros Airport
A small passenger plane crashed in the Bahamas on July 10, killing all 10 people on board, according to Bahamian authorities. The accident occurred as the aircraft was approaching San Andros Airport after departing Lynden Pindling International Airport earlier that day.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority of the Bahamas (AAIA) said the aircraft, identified as a Cessna 402, experienced difficulties before crashing into a wooded area shortly before landing. Investigators have not yet determined what caused the crash.
Authorities Confirm All Occupants Died
Initial information released by investigators indicated that seven people were aboard the aircraft. However, Prime Minister Philip Brave Davis later confirmed that 10 people were on the flight and that there were no survivors.
Officials have not yet released the names of the victims as authorities continue notifying their families.
Investigation Continues
Emergency crews, including the Royal Bahamas Police Force, airport officials, and medical personnel, responded quickly to the crash site. The AAIA said investigators are examining the wreckage and reviewing all available evidence to determine what led to the accident.
The aircraft was reportedly operating as a Flamingo Air flight. Following the crash, Bahamian officials temporarily suspended the airline’s operations while the investigation proceeds.
Nation Mourns the Tragedy
The crash occurred on Bahamian Independence Day, adding to the sadness surrounding the national holiday. Prime Minister Davis expressed condolences to the victims’ families, calling the incident a heartbreaking loss for the country.
