A mass shooting at Seattle’s annual Bite of Seattle food festival left three people dead and multiple others injured on Sunday evening, sending festivalgoers fleeing as police rushed to the scene.

According to the Seattle Police Department, officers responded just after 6:00 p.m. local time after reports of gunfire near the Seattle Center, home to the iconic Space Needle.

Three Victims Lose Their Lives

Police confirmed that a 19-year-old man, a 44-year-old man, and a 56-year-old woman died as a result of the shooting. Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while a third later died after being transported to Harborview Medical Center.

In total, eight people were confirmed to have been shot. Seven victims were found at the scene, while another later arrived at University of Washington Medical Center seeking treatment.

Toddler Among Those Injured

Authorities said one of the injured victims is a 2-year-old boy, who was hospitalized in stable condition. Police reported that, as of early Monday, all surviving victims remained in stable condition at local hospitals.

The shooting unfolded during one of Seattle’s largest summer events, which attracts thousands of visitors each year.

Police Believe Two Shooters Were Involved

Investigators believe the gunfire erupted during an exchange between two individuals. Officers quickly responded, taking one suspect into custody at the scene.

A second suspect fled before police arrived and remains the subject of an active investigation. Authorities said two firearms have been recovered.

Officials Say There Is No Ongoing Threat

Seattle Police Assistant Chief Tyrone Davis praised the officers who responded immediately, saying their actions likely prevented additional casualties.

Officials emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public, though detectives continue searching for the second suspected shooter and are asking anyone with information or video footage to contact investigators.
