Rosie O’Donnell has revealed that she secretly underwent a facelift earlier this year, despite spending much of her life believing she would never have cosmetic surgery.

The 64-year-old opened up about the experience in a candid post, describing the emotional conflict she felt before ultimately deciding to go ahead with the procedure.

“I Would Never, Ever Have One”

O’Donnell admitted she once felt strongly opposed to facelifts.

“I thought it was a betrayal. Of feminism. Of aging. Of our team of women worldwide,” she wrote.

For years, she considered herself someone who would never alter her appearance through cosmetic surgery. However, she said her perspective began to change after losing around 50 pounds.

Weight Loss Changed Her Perspective

While O’Donnell said she generally accepts herself as she is, she began questioning whether her stance against cosmetic procedures still reflected how she truly felt.

“There’s a point where acceptance starts to feel like lying,” she explained.

That realization led her to research facelift procedures and consider options she had previously dismissed.

Her Daughter’s Reaction Gave Her Pause

Before making a final decision, O’Donnell discussed the procedure with her daughter Clay, who strongly opposed the idea.

“Young women look up to you,” Clay reportedly told her.

One comment in particular stuck with the former talk show host.

“I wouldn’t be able to respect you if you did it.”

O’Donnell said hearing those words felt like listening to a younger version of herself.

Going Through With It

Despite her daughter’s concerns, O’Donnell decided to proceed with the surgery.

She said she wanted her children to understand that people should be free to make choices about their own bodies without losing their sense of self or being judged by others.

At the same time, she was determined not to become obsessed with chasing a perfect appearance.

“I wanted a limit,” she wrote.

The Result Surprised Her

What shocked O’Donnell most was that almost nobody appeared to notice.

“Not one person. Not a friend, not a stranger,” she wrote.

“I went through a full existential feminist crisis, had my face and neck surgically altered, and the result is… zippo.”

Even her daughter, she joked, never commented on the change.

Mixed Emotions About the Cost

O’Donnell also acknowledged feeling conflicted about the amount of money she spent on the procedure.

She revealed the facelift cost more than any vehicle she had ever purchased and admitted that reality left her with complicated feelings about privilege and excess.

Still, she said she remains grateful for the ability to make her own choices.

“This Is Me”

Reflecting on life at 64, O’Donnell said the experience was ultimately about more than appearance.

“For the girl I was. The woman I am,” she wrote, “This is me.”

While she continues to wrestle with some feelings of guilt and uncertainty, she says she is embracing this chapter of her life on her own terms.
