A woman turned to the internet after repeatedly discovering tiny rubber rings scattered around her apartment, leaving both her and her partner completely baffled.
Posting on Reddit, she shared a photo of the mystery object and explained that neither of them recognized it.

As expected, the internet immediately got to work.
Some users suggested the rings could be ordinary O-rings — small rubber seals commonly found in household items, appliances, tools, and plumbing fixtures. Others wondered whether they might be coming from a vacuum cleaner, coffee machine, water bottle, or even packaging materials.
A few of the theories were far less serious.
One commenter joked that the only explanation was an “attic squatter with Invisalign,” while another suggested they might belong to a particularly fashionable mouse.
But one answer quickly gained the most support.
A Reddit user pointed out that the rings looked almost identical to the rubber O-rings used on some mechanical keyboards. These tiny rings are sometimes installed beneath keycaps to reduce typing noise and soften keystrokes. The commenter noted that the size appeared to match almost perfectly.
Others weren’t fully convinced, arguing that similar-looking rings are used in countless products, making it difficult to identify their exact source from a photo alone. Several users suggested checking keyboards, vaping devices, appliances, hydration packs, and other household equipment that commonly use small rubber seals.
As of now, the mystery remains unsolved.
But if there’s one thing the post proved, it’s that a tiny rubber ring can send thousands of strangers down a surprisingly entertaining rabbit hole.
What do you think it is?
