R&B Star Opens Up About Her Health
R&B singer Nivea has revealed that she was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) earlier this year and says she is responding well to treatment.
The 44-year-old, best known for hits including “Don’t Mess With My Man” and “Okay,” shared the news during an appearance on Cadillac Chronicles TV, saying the diagnosis has changed her outlook on life.
“I was diagnosed with leukemia earlier this year,” Nivea said. “I’ve been going through treatment, and everything is going great so far. And I expect it to continue.”
Diagnosis Came as a Surprise
Nivea later told PEOPLE that the diagnosis was confirmed after two bone marrow biopsy procedures.
She said she was relieved to learn she had chronic myeloid leukemia, a slow-growing cancer of the bone marrow, rather than a more aggressive form that would have required chemotherapy.
Doctors also told her the disease was not hereditary and was not linked to lifestyle factors, something she described as both reassuring and surprising.
A New Perspective on Life
The singer said the experience has helped her focus on what matters most.
“It just helped me put a lot of things in perspective,” she said. “I live in gratitude religiously.”
Rather than slowing down, Nivea says she’s embracing new opportunities and pursuing long-held goals.
Focusing on Music, Family and the Future
Nivea revealed that she’s returning to music while also studying audio engineering, something she’s wanted to learn for years.
Outside of her career, she’s spending as much time as possible with her children and appreciating every opportunity that comes her way.
She shares four children with her former partners, The-Dream and Lil Wayne, and says family remains at the center of her life as she continues treatment.
