Chris Brown has pleaded guilty to affray following an altercation at a London nightclub, bringing a significant development to a legal case that has been ongoing since 2023.
The incident took place at the exclusive Tape nightclub in Mayfair, London. Brown had originally faced multiple charges, including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon, and attempting to cause grievous bodily harm.
During a hearing at Southwark Crown Court on July 24, the singer admitted to the affray charge. The remaining charges were dropped, meaning Brown will now only be sentenced for the offense he pleaded guilty to.
Brown had previously denied all allegations and was expected to stand trial before a jury later this year. Following the guilty plea, that trial will no longer take place.
The 37-year-old arrived at court wearing a tan suit, gold-rimmed sunglasses, and a baseball cap. Outside the courthouse, fans gathered to support him, playing his music, holding signs, and cheering as he waved to the crowd.
The case stemmed from allegations involving Abraham Diaw, a former friend, who claimed he was attacked during the nightclub incident in 2023. Brown has not admitted to the more serious allegations, which prosecutors will no longer pursue.
Brown is scheduled to return to court on October 26, when a judge will determine his sentence for the affray conviction. The outcome could mark the latest chapter in the Grammy-winning singer’s long history of legal troubles.
