Reports Claim Celebrity Contact Information Was Exposed
Several high-profile Hollywood figures, including Angelina Jolie and Robert De Niro, were reportedly affected by a large data exposure involving files connected to the Tribeca Festival, according to cybersecurity researcher Jeremiah Fowler.
Fowler told The Sun that he discovered hundreds of thousands of publicly accessible files containing contact information that allegedly included names, phone numbers, and email addresses associated with celebrities and industry figures.
Researchers Say the Database Was Left Publicly Accessible
According to Fowler, the exposed records were linked to more than 660,000 files connected to the festival. He said he notified organizers after discovering the database, and the information was reportedly removed from public access shortly afterward.
A representative from the organization allegedly informed Fowler that the matter was being investigated, though the full scope of the exposure has not been publicly confirmed.
Several Well-Known Names Were Mentioned
In addition to Jolie and De Niro, reports claimed that figures such as George Lucas, Martin Scorsese, Danny Boyle, Rami Malek, Sharon Stone, Neil Patrick Harris, and Michael Douglas may also have been included in the records.
However, it remains unclear exactly whose information was exposed and whether all of the contact details belonged directly to the celebrities themselves.
Personal Details or Professional Contacts?
A source cited in reports claimed that many of the records may have contained information for agents, managers, or representatives, rather than the stars’ personal contact information.
Fowler reportedly questioned that possibility because some email addresses allegedly used common services such as Gmail or Yahoo, though this alone does not confirm that the accounts belonged personally to the celebrities.
No Evidence of Misuse Has Been Reported
At this time, there is no public evidence that the information was used for hacking, fraud, or identity theft. Researchers also said they did not find signs of ransomware or indications that cybercriminals had already exploited the exposed files.
Cybersecurity experts often warn that exposed contact information can still create risks, including phishing attempts, impersonation scams, and targeted malware attacks.
