My name is Susan. I’m 67, and my life has been simple for many years.
I work as a nurse and still pick up extra shifts whenever I can. Part of the reason is that I help support my daughter, who is raising two children on her own. My grandchildren are the center of my world.
My marriage ended a long time ago, and after that I never built another serious relationship. Over time my life settled into a quiet routine of work, family visits, and peaceful evenings at home.
Last Christmas Eve, after finishing a long shift, I came home completely exhausted.
I warmed up some leftovers, poured myself a cup of tea, and opened Facebook just to relax for a few minutes before bed.
Then something on my screen made me freeze.
A photo had been shared so many times that it appeared in my feed. It was old and faded, showing two young people standing close together and smiling shyly at the camera.
I recognized the place immediately.
And then I realized something else.
One of the people in the photo was me.
The man standing beside me was Daniel — my first love from college. We had dated seriously for a while until one day he suddenly disappeared. His family moved across the country, and after that we completely lost contact.
For 45 years I wondered what had happened.
Below the photo was a message.
The post said he had been searching for the woman in the picture — Susan. He wrote that he had tried finding her through colleges and old records but had never succeeded.
And then one sentence caught my breath.
He said he had kept something important for her for 45 years and wanted to return it.
My heart was racing.
I closed the app at first, unsure what to do. But sleep never came that night, and Daniel’s message kept echoing in my mind.
Finally, I gathered the courage to open the post again.
And I sent him a message.
The reply came the next morning.
Daniel explained that the day he left all those years ago, he had planned to propose to me. He had already bought the ring, but his family suddenly moved away due to his father’s job.
The move happened so quickly that he never had the chance to find me before leaving.
For decades he kept the ring in a small box, hoping one day he might find me again.
And after 45 years, a single photo on the internet finally reunited two people who thought they had lost each other forever.
