A British mum has shared a harrowing warning after a dental trip abroad ended in severe complications, thousands of pounds in debt, and the loss of all her teeth.
Jackie Lynn, 38, from Norwich, initially travelled to Turkey for what she believed would be a simple cosmetic dental procedure costing around $4,000.
Instead, she says the experience spiraled into multiple operations, escalating costs, and life-threatening medical issues.
From Simple Treatment to Major Dental Work
Jackie first sought composite bonding after hormonal changes linked to a medical condition left her teeth “crumbling.”
The initial procedure cost around $4,000 and appeared successful at first — but soon began to fail.
“It started cracking off and I was back to square one,” she said.
She then returned to Turkey for further treatment, paying around $8,000 for crowns and root canal work.
However, she claims the treatment she received was far more extensive than expected.
“I got sedated, and when I woke up, I was in absolute agony.”
“I Was in Horrendous Pain”
Jackie says she later discovered she had undergone multiple root canals and was fitted with crown bridges instead of individual crowns — leading to severe pain and pressure in her mouth.

Within days, she was forced to return for further treatment.
Eventually, another dentist advised that her remaining teeth had been damaged beyond repair and recommended full extraction and implants.
Costs Spiraled to $24,000
What began as a $4,000 procedure ultimately cost Jackie around $24,000, which she had to borrow from her father.
“I was thinking, what the hell have I done? I was so upset.”
Life-Threatening Complications
Jackie’s ordeal escalated further when she developed a serious infection linked to dental abscesses, which spread into her face and bloodstream.
She was hospitalized after swelling left her unable to open one eye.
“The infection had spread into my sinuses and into my blood.”
Long Recovery and Emotional Toll
She is now fitted with temporary teeth while awaiting implants, but says the experience has had a lasting impact on her mental and physical health.
“I’ve lost months with my daughter and lost my job… I’ve just been really down and depressed.”
She added that she can only eat soft foods and is still recovering from the trauma.
A Wider Warning About Overseas Dental Work
Jackie does not blame the clinics involved but warns others to be extremely cautious when considering dental treatment abroad.
The British Dental Association also cautioned patients to research carefully and ensure full informed consent before undergoing any procedures overseas.
