After spending long days portraying complex characters, Annette Bening has found a simple way to relax. The Oscar-nominated actress recently shared that her favorite way to unwind isn’t a glamorous Hollywood party. Instead, it’s a quiet evening at home with family.
A Relaxing End to Busy Days
Bening said that after filming emotionally demanding scenes, she prefers to return home, slow down, and spend time with the people she loves. One of her favorite routines includes watching baseball with her 97-year-old mother, Shirley, while enjoying a glass of wine.
Her mother, meanwhile, keeps to a long-standing tradition by having a single martini at 5:30 p.m., something Bening says has become part of their daily routine.
Family Comes First
The actress shared that her mother has been living with her and her husband, Warren Beatty, for several years. She described Shirley as an incredible person who enjoys reading, solving crossword puzzles, and even reading scripts before filming begins.
Bening says these quiet moments at home help her transition from the intensity of work back to everyday life.
Finding Balance Beyond Hollywood
Rather than looking for excitement after filming, Bening prefers a calm evening at home. She believes spending quality time with family allows her to recharge and stay grounded despite the demands of her career.
It’s a routine she says has remained largely unchanged throughout many years in the entertainment industry.
A New Role in ‘Lucky’
Bening can next be seen in Lucky, an upcoming thriller based on Marissa Stapley’s bestselling novel. The Apple TV+ series stars Anya Taylor-Joy in the lead role and features an ensemble cast including Timothy Olyphant, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Clifton Collins Jr., and Drew Starkey.
Bening said she was drawn to the project because of its compelling story and talented cast, calling the experience both exciting and rewarding.
A Reminder That Simple Moments Matter
While many celebrities live fast-paced lives, Bening’s evening routine highlights the importance of slowing down. For the acclaimed actress, sharing a quiet night with family has become the perfect way to leave work behind and focus on what matters most.
