TROY, Ohio — The murder trial of Caleb Flynn, 39, accused of killing his wife Ashley Flynn, 37, is progressing despite a request from prosecutors to delay the proceedings by four days. Caleb Flynn is charged with murder and tampering with evidence related to the death of his wife, who was shot inside their home on February 16, 2026. He has pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Flynn was indicted in March, and the case has moved swiftly toward trial. Both the defense and prosecution agreed for Judge Jeannine Pratt to continue presiding over the trial, even after the appointment of a new staff attorney who formerly worked in the Miami County District Attorney’s Office. The trial was originally set to begin on April 28, 2026.

On Monday, prosecutors filed a motion seeking a short delay, citing that an expert report was received by the state on April 11 and promptly shared with the defense. However, under Ohio law, all expert reports must be submitted at least 21 days before the trial start date. The defense opposes this four-day postponement. A hearing to resolve the scheduling issue has been set for 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

In a related development, the defense withdrew a motion for a non-dissemination order during the hearing initially scheduled to discuss that matter. If convicted, Caleb Flynn could face a life sentence.

Investigators say Flynn fatally shot Ashley Flynn with a 9mm handgun inside their residence and then attempted to stage the scene to resemble a burglary. Caleb Flynn called 911 reporting that his wife had been shot during a home invasion.

Despite the ongoing dispute over the trial date, Flynn’s attorney has stated that the defendant is prepared to proceed when the trial commences later this month.
