Some cannabis users have been warning about a disturbing side effect known as “scromiting”, a term used to describe episodes of severe vomiting combined with intense pain and screaming.
The condition is linked to a medical issue called Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome (CHS), which has been increasingly reported among long-term, heavy cannabis users.

Scromiting is not an official medical diagnosis itself, but a slang term used to describe the extreme symptoms some patients experience during CHS episodes, where vomiting can become so intense it is paired with visible distress and crying out in pain.
Health experts explain that CHS typically causes repeated cycles of nausea, abdominal pain, and uncontrollable vomiting, often lasting for hours or even days during flare-ups.

In many cases, sufferers report that symptoms only temporarily ease with hot showers or baths, though this does not treat the underlying condition.
Doctors believe the condition is linked to long-term, frequent cannabis use, although not everyone who uses cannabis develops it, and the exact biological trigger is still being studied.
Emergency departments have reported a rise in cases, with some patients experiencing symptoms so severe they require urgent treatment for dehydration and exhaustion.
Health officials stress that the only proven way to stop CHS is to stop using cannabis completely, as symptoms tend to disappear only after prolonged abstinence.
While the term “scromiting” has gained attention online, medical professionals caution that the condition itself is serious and can significantly impact quality of life if left unaddressed.
