Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi traveled to Oman for talks centered on the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping lanes. The discussions come as commercial vessel traffic has reportedly slowed following recent military tensions between the United States and Iran.
According to U.S. officials, Washington expects Tehran to publicly reaffirm that the strategic waterway will remain open and that commercial ships will not be targeted, as diplomatic efforts continue to prevent further escalation.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump warned Iran against any attempt to target him, saying the country would face severe consequences if such an attack were carried out. His comments followed reports that Israeli intelligence shared information about alleged threats against the president.
However, U.S. officials have indicated that intelligence assessments did not identify a newly uncovered assassination plot. Instead, they described ongoing concerns based on continuing threats from various actors linked to Iran rather than evidence of an imminent attack.
Relations Between Washington and Tehran Remain Strained
Both sides continue to exchange sharp rhetoric. Araghchi accused the United States of violating previous understandings between the two countries, while Iranian officials said they remain deeply distrustful of Washington and are prepared to defend the country if necessary.
Trump, for his part, has stated that negotiations between the two nations are effectively over, highlighting the growing uncertainty surrounding future diplomatic efforts.

Iranian media also report that Mojtaba Khamenei, who succeeded his father Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as Supreme Leader, is expected to deliver a public message in the coming hours following the funeral of the late leader.
According to those reports, Mojtaba Khamenei has largely remained out of public view in recent months, communicating primarily through written statements. No independent confirmation has yet been provided regarding the timing or contents of the expected address.
