King’s publicist addressed the speculation, explaining that the decision had nothing to do with the close friendship between King and Swift. According to the statement, both women have always viewed the role of a godmother as a deeply personal and spiritual commitment rather than something measured by attending public events.
The representative also shared that Leo, now 10 years old, is still considered too young for a large, adult-focused wedding celebration. Instead, he and his mother celebrated Swift and Kelce’s marriage privately in a way that was appropriate for his age during his summer break.
A Friendship That Goes Back Years
King and Swift have been close friends since 2014. In 2015, King publicly announced that Swift would become Leo’s godmother, describing the singer as someone she deeply trusted.
The connection between their families extends further. King’s former husband, filmmaker Kyle Newman, directed Swift’s music video for “Style,” helping strengthen the friendship over the years.
