Jeff Bezos could soon have a major stake in Liverpool Football Club, with reports that the Amazon founder is part of a consortium negotiating a significant investment in the Premier League club.
The proposed deal would see a consortium led by Amit Bhatia acquire a substantial minority stake in Liverpool. Bezos and Eduardo Saverin, the Facebook co-founder, are reportedly among the investors involved in the group.
The investment is expected to involve roughly 30% of the club, although the exact size and final terms remain subject to the completion of the negotiations. Fenway Sports Group, which has controlled Liverpool since 2010, would remain the club’s controlling shareholder.
Bezos Joins a Billionaire Lineup
If completed, the investment would put several extremely wealthy businessmen behind one of football’s most recognizable clubs. Bhatia is a shareholder and vice chairman at Queens Park Rangers, while his father-in-law, Indian steel billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, has previously held a major stake in the London club.
Saverin would bring another major technology fortune to the proposed investment group. The Brazilian-born entrepreneur was one of Facebook’s original co-founders and has previously been involved in an unsuccessful attempt to acquire Chelsea.
Reports have suggested that the proposed transaction could value Liverpool at around $6 billion, potentially making it one of the largest minority investments in English football.
For FSG, such a deal would provide a substantial financial return while allowing the company to retain control of Liverpool. FSG purchased the club in 2010 for around £300 million, when Liverpool was facing serious financial difficulties.
What Happened to the Elon Musk Rumors?
Bezos’ reported interest is particularly notable because Liverpool had previously been linked to another technology billionaire: Elon Musk.
Rumors about Musk’s possible interest in the club intensified in 2025 after his father, Errol Musk, was asked whether his son would consider buying Liverpool. He acknowledged that Elon would like the idea, while also making clear that this did not mean a purchase was actually taking place.
The speculation was fueled partly by Musk’s family connection to Liverpool. His grandmother was born in the city, and his family has maintained links there.
Unlike those earlier rumors, the current Bezos story involves a specific investment consortium and reported negotiations with Liverpool’s ownership group. That makes it a considerably more concrete development, although the deal still needs to be formally completed.
If the investment goes through, Bezos would join the increasingly long list of global billionaires seeking a position in elite football. For Liverpool, however, the more important question may be what the additional capital means for the club’s long-term ambitions both on and off the pitch.
